A short visit with Kaye. From Pacific Grove to Cambria.

Once we figured out when we’d be heading back from whence we came, Kaye and I checked out and then took a short walk in the butterfly grove behind our hotel, but alas the butterflies are gone by now. Too bad, but still very pretty back there.

But before we did anything else, we called Cynthia to sing to her, in our very best harmony, the Happy Birthday song. Happy Birthday, Cynthia.

Then we hightailed it to Toasties for breakfast. Toasties has such a special place for us, although I’m not really sure why. It grabbed the hearts and love of the BGC when they first came to Pacific Grove, waaaay back when, and has never stopped being an icon for us. Amy and Pat have been here also, so the word has spread.

When we ordered, I wanted to say that Bev was just outside, as she is. I spread some of Bev’s ashes here among their plants in 2024 (I didn’t tell them, though). We had a great American style breakfast, and ordered two Toasties mugs to go. I wanted a Toasties T-shirt, but they only had XXL.

We had until about 2, when we decided it would be time to split, Kaye heading north and me going south, and so we took a short walk and then drove 17-Mile Drive through Pebble Beach, talked, and enjoyed our surroundings. The shoreline is beautiful (of course), with some heavy and nice looking waves as the tide came in.

It was nearing 2 by now, so we headed back to Pacific Grove, where Kaye had parked, and then a quick, but sad, goodbye, and off we went, in opposite directions. Unlike my drive up, I planned to take a slow drive back, following route 1 south as much as possible along the coast, one of the very nice nicest drives anywhere, taking two days to get back to Marg. I wasn’t quite sure where to spend the night, but decided on Santa Maria, a little below Pismo Beach and inland, and about 180 miles south of Pacific Grove.

The drive was lovely, and pretty relaxing. Route 1, through Big Sur, is just beautiful, and I took that down to Cambria, a favorite stopover, where I spent a little time walking about and enjoying the town.

By now it was getting on a bit, and it was after 5:30 by the time I left. I continued down route 1, passing through Morro Bay and Pismo Beach, until reaching Santa Maria around 7, and arriving at the Villa Motel, where the day came to an end.
