Nevada to West Wendover, Utah.

Today I drove about 400 miles or so, along route 80 east. Much of it was flat through Nevada, but mountains starting appearing, some with snow, as I neared Utah, heading to West Wendover, Nevada for the night.

My drive today, which was pleasant enough, was without any exploration along the way, so I just went from Point A (Reno) to Point B (West Wendover), where I am at the moment. Even though I’m on the route back home, I do want to stop and enjoy the scenery and continue to enjoy the journey, and not just feel I’m on way to somewhere and so should hurry. I’ll have to remind of that. Actually, if I miss being in Amherst for the election, that’ll be okay, although I think I will be.

I thought a lot about Shikha and Bev on my long drive. It is far more difficult, of course, for me to deal with and bear the loss of Bev, but Shikha’s passing is equally tragic and unfair, and so similar in that both Bev and Shikha were robbed, and just sort of faded. With Bev, I have to continually remind myself that not only is Bev dead (I hate even writing that), but it’s permanent. There will never again be Bev.

Even though I’m still about 120 miles west of Salt Lake City, I started to see some salt flats along the way. When driving with Kaye, we also saw some salt flats, but these are the smaller flats leading to the big flats outside of Salt Lake, which I’ll see tomorrow. I remember the Salt Flats being great to see… for two minutes, and they’re boring as hell for the next couple of hours. We’ll see tomorrow.

Actually, I’m staying in Wendover, although I thought I was staying in West Wendover. Wendover, where I’m staying, is in Utah and on Mountain Time. West Wendover, which is in Nevada and on Pacific Time, is about half a mile down the road.
