Return to Berkeley.

I had a lovely, although brief, time with Cynthia, and we spent the morning talking and hanging, and I left later than I intended, as we were enjoying hanging out. It’s sort of like normal to be just be hanging around and visiting, rather than doing anything special or the occasion being a big event, but upon leaving to head to Berkeley, it was good to know I’ll be back for another visit in a couple of weeks, after I drop off Russ.

I got to Kaye around 2:30, and she was was waiting to head out to Allison’s birthday party. Of course, it was very good to see Kaye again, and so soon after being with her just a few weeks ago, and we talked for a while before she really needed to go, and I dropped her off. Then I headed into San Francisco, in search of that fabled fish and chip shop I remember from soooo long ago, and there it was, Piccadilly Fish and Chips on Polk Street. It looks like a run down, but nevertheless authentic, UK fish and chips shop, with British equipment (from Wales), but the only wrong thing was that he undercooked my chips. They were otherwise good, though. It’s so odd to me, that in all my travels around the US going back 50 plus years, this, and the one other place just like this that also used to be nearby, are the only places that I’ve ever found that have authentic British fish and chips. I wish I understood why that was.

Anyway, then I visited Steve and Gail again, also very nice.

Gail, downtown Bernal Heights

We hung around and talked, including the possibility that Steve might take a road trip with when I’m next up in a couple of weeks, and then finally head out for home, but I guess we’ll see. The two of then continue to have busy lives, and regularly travel. They’ll next be heading to Madison, Wisconsin for a few weeks, where they’ll help with getting the vote out. Steve, and Gail also, although I don’t know Gail nearly as well, over the 51 years I’ve known him, has lived his life in accord with his principles and ideals, to this day, including in his working life as a union organizer. It’s worked well for him.

We took a walk down into Bernal Heights, where they have lived for 34 years (wow), and ate crepes for dinner. After returning to their house and hanging out a little more, I headed back to Kaye, but may see them both again tomorrow, especially if Kaye has to do school work all day tomorrow, which is likely.
